How To Do This Study
Welcome!
“To contemplate” means: to view or consider with careful thought and attention; to think profoundly and at length; to look at thoughtfully for a long time.
This study involves 20-days of work divided up over 40 days. There are dates attached to each day to help you stay on pace.
Here, in the online portion of this course, you will find:
- Images (photographs, artwork, video) that compliment the Bread Alone Study Guide and are meant to foster further contemplation.
- The Behold the Lamb lectures, divided up according to the modules in the Study Guide, for ease of listening. Note: Audio of The Hunger Games is not provided as it is copyrighted material.
- Links to online materials and resources referenced in the Study Guide.
Refer to your Study Guide for all reading/listening assignments, questions, and suggestions for enrichment. (They will not be published here to assure that you do not spend too much time staring at a screen throughout the course of this study!)
Don't forget to get a notebook and write down all of your answers! The activity of writing aids the activity of thinking. This will also make in-person or online discussions more interesting and fruitful.
If at any point you have a nagging question that you wish you could ask Fr. McCarthy, check the final module in this online course for the most frequently asked questions about Gospel Nonviolence. If you don't find it there, your question is likely to be answered in the course of the lectures. Regardless of whether it is answered, please bring it up for group discussion when we meet!
